“Raw Beauty NYC” is an innovative visual arts project designed to inspire the public to create new perceptions, transform stereotypes and breakthrough personal obstacles by expanding awareness of women with physical challenges.
This ground breaking photography exhibit is a collaboration between high-profile photographers and twenty women with living with various types of disabilities to showcase their true beauty, empowerment and sensuality. The audience will glimpse into the lives of these incredible women through photography and learn more about their stories.

“” was created by Shelly Baer, Vanessa Silberman, Ginny Dixon, Susan Solman, Sabrina Cohen and Wendy Crawford, and had their premier in Miami’s Wynward Art District in 2006. The public and media reaction was overwhelmingly positive and supportive. The Miami Herald wrote, “The photo exhibit shows a sexy, powerful, seldom-seen view of disabled women.’’
Now, Raw Beauty NYC, spearheaded by Wendy Crawford, founder of , an online magazine for women in wheelchairs, and Ginny Dixon, a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist, with the support of the original Miami women and a dynamic committee, are working with new models and prominent photographers to bring this powerful exhibit to New York City.
This exhibit will commemorate the merger of with the , providing more access, education and outreach to women with disabilities, an underserved population throughout the disabled community.
To officially unveil the exhibit and allow the public to “meet” the models, Raw Beauty will host an event tentatively scheduled for Fall, 2014 (date to be announced soon!) with funds benefiting the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in support of their mission to cure spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.
“Raw Beauty NYC” is looking for remarkable and exceptional mobileWOMEN who reside in the New York City area to be a model for the photography exhibit. Do you know someone that is truly exceptional? Are you that woman?
She may be a leader/role model in her community now, or have the potential, because she has been able to move beyond her obstacles both personal and physical to celebrate lifWOMAN, modele and contribute to others. This outstanding mobileWOMAN should inspire others and embrace the raw beauty that exists in herself and those around her.
